Snow in Canterbury

A night of heavy snowfall has left more than 10 cm of snow
-
Orange Street in Snowy White
in parts of Canterbury.
Southeastern Trains are operating an extremely limited service and suffering
major disruption. Mainline tickets are being accepted on high speed services. Stagecoach
buses are running, but subject to delay and cancellation. Yesterday, they were
not running to the UKC campus due to dangerous conditions, but failed to
mention this on their website. Kent
police are urging people to travel only if absolutely necessary. (It should be
noted that, although 17 schools across Canterbury
are closed today, The Department for Education considers travel into school ‘essential’.)
Kent County Council claim that they have a salt monitoring
system and salt supplies will not run out over the winter. Salting routes cover
30% of the county’s roads, including all A and B roads, busy commuter routes
and known danger spots. For more information about salting and salt bins, visit
the Kent County Council website.
Canterbury
residents may suffer disruption to their rubbish collections. Canterbury City
Council are not cancelling rubbish collections, and aim to provide this service
as soon as possible, although rubbish collection may not occur on the usual
day.
