The event that promises "something for everyone", the Canterbury Festival, begins this weekend.

As in previous years there are performances of classic, world and pop music, theatre, talks, walks and exhibitions - but this year the event will also be exploring Science and The arts for the first time.

Launched by Lord Robert Winston with a thought provoking insight into the relationship between science, society and religion - plus stand up mathematician Matt Parker in Your Days are Numbered and rock physicist Dr Mark Lewney who provides a guided guitar tour through the science of music in Music: An Explanation by a Guitar Hero.

There are concerts in Canterbury Cathedral and the new Marlowe Theatre - as well as free street theatre throughout the city.

The Festival's Opening Day tomorrow (Saturday 15th October) has free events for all the family, including The Carnival Parade, which takes to the city streets with beautiful colourful paper and light sculpture made from recycled materials, music and movement, and featuring over 300 local school pupils and members of community groups.

You can find details of some of What's On at our events page and the full line up on the official Canterbury Festival website
