The 'consultation' was a PR spin, a tickbox scam, ignoring the enormous number of residents whose lives will be affected for the worse directly by the proposed developments. The details provided did not mention two bars selling alcohol on the site, and the 'artists impressions' showed images of non-existent trees shielding the buildings from surrounding housing.
It is clear the people promoting the proposal are not knowledgeable enough about the layout of the site, its relation to existing housing, and the exact locations of the pedestrian footpaths.
Disruption from drunken people in the middle of the night is upsetting. Asking students to turn noise down, walking around rubbish bags outside students houses - local residents already have to put up with this and more. The University of Kent's proposals are the last straw.
What will happen if the business plan to attract more overseas students to pay (£18K pa) for the development fails, and the UK funding cuts reduce UK students? Will the site become a wasteland, or will UKC sell it and cut their losses?
