Kent Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on a 17-year-old student in St Geroge's Place, Canterbury.

The assaut took place at 4.45pm on Wednesday 7th December 2011 in the car park behind the St Geroge's Centre which houses Waitrose.

The victim, from Herne Bay, suffered cuts and swelling to his left cheekbone after being hit twice in the face.

Investigating officer PC Chris Waterfall said: "It appears that this incident began as an argument between the victim and three other boys he knows.

"The argument escalated and the victim was hit in the face twice by two of the group, who then left the  car park in a black car," he added.

PC Waterfall is appealing for anyone who saw the altercation to contact police: "It was a busy time of day and the victim has told us that there were several passers by who stopped to see what was happening. I urge them to contact us as they could have information that will help our investigation," he said.

If  you can help, phone Kent Police on 101 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime number ZY/2280/11.

A 17-year-old boy from Herne Bay and an 18-year-old man from Canterbury have been arrested for assault and have been bailed until 17 January while enquiries continue.
