It's important to get Christmas Dinner right - so where in Canterbury should you buy your turkey and what can you cook if you fancy something different instead?

While we have a comprehensive list of the city's butchers and how to get hold of them to pre-order here in our business pages, we also popped into Wincheap Butchers to get their now tips for a festive feast.

While there's still time to get a turkey from their here's their other suggestions that should go down a treat if you fancy something different this year.

Roast haunch or saddle of venison

The experts at Wincheap Butchers say you'd roast this much like you would a turkey, but service it with plum sauce and make sure you use a nice full bodied port to add to the meat juices when making your gravy.

Loin of pork by the roll

Again, this would be roasted and the experts recommend serving it with a traditional apple sauce with a Christmassy twist - add cinamon.

Friends of ours have vension every year - we spent Christmas with them last year and it was delicious. Bit nervous about cooking it myself though, so might have to stick with turkey this year.
