Canterbury's got plenty of chain hardware stores - but believe it or not, you can get a better deal on your DIY products in some of the area's independent shops.

Wincheap Hardware is near to many of the city's national chains, which means its survival in such close proximity is recommendation alone.

You can pick up all your DIY essentials here, without having to walk the endless aisles of the bigger stores on the nearby industrial estate.

Parker Tools is Canterbury's go to place for, you've guessed it, tools.

They specialise in power tools, hand tools, valves and fittings and much more.

You can drop in to their trade counter their experienced staff will take your order and advise you on the right products for the job.

Finally, if you live near Whitstable, Stocks is a great family run hardware store which offers everything from screws to skirting boards - at prices cheaper than the big chains.

As well as bargain prices and great staff advice, you also get to meet the shop's lovely Labradors, who can usually be found chilling out in the aisles.
